We‘re currently recruiting a Trade Counter Sales Associate to join our client‘s Portarlington branch.

Our client is a long-established and highly respected name in the Irish builders’ merchant sector, supporting tradespeople, contractors, DIY customers and homeowners nationwide. With multiple branches, specialist manufacturing facilities and dedicated materials centres, they offer a genuine one-stop solution for building supplies – and pride themselves on knowledgeable staff and excellent customer service.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands-on, customer-facing role in a fast-paced trade environment.

This isn’t a typical retail position. You’ll be part of a busy trade counter team where no two days are the same. You’ll build strong relationships with customers, offer practical solutions, and develop in-depth product knowledge that customers genuinely rely on.

Key Responsibilities

• Acting as the first point of contact for customers at the trade counter
• Understanding customer requirements and providing helpful, practical advice
• Building lasting relationships with regular trade customers and contractors
• Developing strong knowledge across a wide range of building materials and products
• Supporting day-to-day branch operations including merchandising, stock replenishment and phone enquiries
• Working closely with warehouse and yard teams to ensure smooth order fulfilment
• Getting involved wherever needed as part of a collaborative, customer-focused team

What We’re Looking For

• A strong team player with a customer-first attitude
• Previous exposure to building materials (trade counter experience, apprenticeship, labouring, or similar)
• Excellent communication skills and a positive, flexible approach
• Willingness to learn new products and systems
• Retail, trade counter or customer service experience is a strong advantage – attitude and reliability are key

Working Hours & Pay

• Monday to Friday
• Every second Saturday morning
• €16.50 per hour
