Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:30pm
Salary: €20-€25 per hour (€39,000-€48,750 per annum DOE)

Travel: Regular travel required

About the Role

We are partnering with a leading provider of therapeutic and recreational programmes within residential care settings to recruit an enthusiastic and creative Therapeutic Recreation Programme Coordinator.

This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of older adults by developing engaging programmes that support wellbeing, social connection, cognitive stimulation, and quality of life.

The successful candidate will work closely with care home teams across Cork, supporting and mentoring facilitators, delivering innovative recreational programmes, and ensuring activities are safe, inclusive, and enjoyable for residents.

The Opportunity

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate and oversee therapeutic recreation programmes across multiple care facilities.

• Design and develop engaging recreational activities that promote wellbeing, cognition, independence, and social interaction.
• Facilitate group sessions when required and provide cover for facilitators.
• Ensure activities are adapted to meet the needs and abilities of residents, including those living with dementia.
• Continuously review and enhance programme content to maintain a high-quality resident experience.
• Mentor, coach, and support activity facilitators across care settings.

• Conduct observation visits and provide constructive feedback to maintain service quality.
• Deliver training and ongoing professional development opportunities for facilitators.
• Lead regular team meetings and foster a positive, collaborative team culture.
• Build strong relationships with Directors of Nursing, care teams, residents, and families.

• Act as the main point of contact regarding programme quality and resident engagement.
• Work closely with facility management teams to identify opportunities for programme improvement.
• Monitor and evaluate programme outcomes and resident participation.

• Ensure all activities are delivered safely and in accordance with safeguarding and organisational standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain accurate records and reports.
• Promote best practice in dementia-friendly and person-centred activities.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is caring, confident, creative, and passionate about improving the lives of older people.

You may currently be working as:

• An Activities Coordinator or Recreation Coordinator
• A Healthcare Professional with experience supporting older adults
• A Nurse with a passion for wellbeing and engagement programmes
• An Occupational Therapy, Social Care, Health Promotion or Community Care professional

Essential Requirements

• Degree (Level 7 or above) in Health & Social Care, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Care, Recreation, Community Development, or a related discipline.
• Experience working with older adults in healthcare, residential care, community care, or similar settings.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Full clean Irish driving licence.
• Willingness to travel regularly throughout Cork.
