Location: Galway
Salary: €40,000 – €45,000 DOE
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:30pm
Saturdays: Occasional Saturdays, 8:30am – 2:00pm
Benefits: Company pension from commencement and health insurance following successful completion of probation

The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and commercially driven Retail Supervisor to join a busy specialist retail and trade environment in Galway.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in PPE, safety products, hardware, builders’ merchants, construction supplies, agricultural retail or trade counter sales who enjoys working directly with customers and identifying the right products for their needs.

The successful candidate will be hands-on and sales-focused, with the ability to build strong customer relationships, identify opportunities to increase sales and support the day-to-day running of the store.

You do not necessarily need to come from a traditional retail management background. Candidates with strong construction, hardware, trade or technical product knowledge who have the personality and commercial ability to move into a customer-facing sales environment are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive sales by engaging with customers and understanding their specific requirements.
• Advise customers on suitable PPE, safety equipment, workwear and related products.
• Identify opportunities to upsell and cross-sell relevant products.
• Deliver a high standard of customer service to both trade and retail customers.
• Develop strong relationships with new and existing customers.
• Support the day-to-day supervision and operation of the retail store.
• Lead by example and support a small shop team.
• Ensure the store and product displays are maintained to a high standard.
• Assist with locating and retrieving products from the warehouse when required.
• Liaise with customer support and warehouse teams to resolve customer queries.
• Process transactions and use internal computer and till systems.
• Maintain accurate administration and sales records.
• Bring forward new ideas and initiatives to increase sales and improve the customer experience.
• Work effectively in a busy environment and confidently manage competing priorities.

• Hardware retail
• Builders’ merchants
• Trade counter sales
• Construction supplies
• Agricultural merchants or co-ops
• Building materials
• Tools and equipment
• Workwear or safety footwear
• Construction or trades with strong customer-facing experience

Ideal Candidate

• Previous retail, trade counter, sales or supervisory experience.
• Strong sales ability with a genuine interest in understanding customer needs.
• Comfortable selling technical or practical products.
• Knowledge of PPE, safety products, hardware or construction products would be a strong advantage.
• Confident dealing with both trade and retail customers.
• Able to identify sales opportunities rather than simply process transactions.
• Hands-on, proactive and willing to help across different areas of the business.
• Strong communication and people skills.
• Good organisation and attention to detail.
• Comfortable using computer systems and learning new software.
• Previous experience supervising or supporting a small team would be advantageous.
• Able to remain calm and effective in a busy customer-facing environment.
