Customs Clearance Manager

Salary: €55,000 – €70,000 (depending on experience)
The Role
We are currently recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Customs Clearance Manager to lead and support a high-performing customs team in a fast-paced logistics environment. This role involves managing day-to-day operations for a large volume of customs declarations, while ensuring full compliance with Irish, UK, and EU customs regulations.
You will play a key role in team leadership, process improvement, and stakeholder engagement, acting as a central point of escalation and expertise across customs operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily customs operations, supporting a team processing high volumes of declarations
- Ensure all customs procedures are compliant with current legislation and internal standards
- Act as a point of escalation for complex customs queries and issues
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customs authorities and regulatory bodies
- Identify risks and delays, implementing solutions to maintain operational efficiency
- Monitor, analyse, and report on KPIs to drive continuous improvement
- Collaborate with operational teams across Ireland and the UK to enhance processes
- Support system improvements, testing, and implementation of new procedures
- Ensure ongoing compliance with all customs regulations, including updates to legislation
- Provide guidance and support to customers on import and export requirements
- Attend customer meetings where required to provide customs expertise
Team Management
- Lead and support the customs team through supervisors and team leads
- Manage staffing, including rosters, holidays, and absences
- Monitor team performance and drive productivity improvements
- Identify training needs and support ongoing development
- Oversee onboarding and integration of new team members
- Work closely with HR on recruitment, performance management, and development
- Conduct appraisals, reviews, and KPI setting in a fair and consistent manner
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years‘ experience in a team management role
- Strong knowledge of customs clearance processes and regulations
- Experience within freight forwarding or supply chain environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy
- Proactive approach with strong ownership of responsibilities
